The Childbirth Educator Workshop(CEW)

A prerequisite for becoming a Certified Childbirth Educator for Birth Works requires attendance at our three-day dynamic and experiential workshop held regionally. In the workshop you will experience an effective learning model, that will help you when facilitating your own classes.

Please note: Our workshops are open to anyone. Enrollment in the Educator Certification Program is not a prerequisite to attending the workshop.

Topics Include:

  1. BirthWorks philosphies of childbirth
  2. The systems approach to wholistic health care
  3. The impact of emotional learning that makes Birth Works a unique program
  4. Human values as the foundation of all decision-making
  5. Pelvic bodywork and postural alignment advantageous to the baby in helping to prevent a dysfunctional labor
  6. The art of discovering belief systems and changing them if necessary
  7. Group facilitation and communication techniques through role plays
  8. Setting a supportive atmosphere for classes
  9. Components of labor, privacy, pain, and vocalization
  10. Comfort measures for labor and labor positions
  11. Guilt, blame, and judgment issues as they pertain to birthing
  12. Vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) and cesarean decision making
  13. Multi-sensory visualization
  14. Grieving and healing
  15. Presentation of class topics and wise use of audiovisuals

 

Information About the Workshop

The workshop remains valid towards certification for five years from the date it was held. We encourage those in the certification program to attend the workshop early in their training, but anytime during the two-year training period is acceptable.

The workshop runs from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm the first day, 9:00 am to 6:30 pm the second day, and 9:00 am to 3:30 pm the third day unless otherwise posted. Advanced Educator Training workshops are open to all BirthWorks members and birth professionals.

The Doula Workshop(DW)

A prerequisite for becoming a Certified Doula for Birth Works requires attendance at our three-day dynamic and experiential workshop held regionally. In the workshop you will experience an effective learning model, that will help you when serving your clients.

Please note: Our workshops are open to anyone. Enrollment in the Doula Certification Program is not a prerequisite to attending the workshop.

  1. Effective interviewing techniques
  2. Writing a birth plan and choosing a birth team
  3. Comfort measures for the laboring woman and her partner
  4. Pelvic bodywork and effective positions in labor
  5. Physiology of birth
  6. Minimizing neocortical stimulation
  7. Integration of the mind, body, and spirit when giving birth and into parenting
  8. Practicing human values to build confidence when giving birth
  9. Risks and benefits of medical procedures
  10. The importance of positive thinking and reframing techniques
  11. Conflict resolution with role plays
  12. Mother / infant massage and breastfeeding
  13. Grieving and healing
  14. Relationships with mothers
  15. The energy of compassion and love
  16. How to build and market your services
  17. Singing and experiential exercises

The workshop runs from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm the first two days, and 9:00 am to 3:30 pm the third day unless otherwise posted. Upon receipt of your workshop registration, you will be sent the Doula Journal Workbook along with additional workshop information.

Special Hostess Discounts:

* If 5-7 people attend, hostess receives $150 off the $450 workshop price
* If 8-9 people attend, hostess receives $250 off.
* If 10 or more people attend, hostess attends FREE.

Other discounts:
Register for a Birth Works International childbirth educator workshop with a friend and both of you will receive a $20 discount.

When five or more people register at the same time, each person gets $55 off the regular workshop price!

CCE's from other organizations qualify for a $50 discount and will earn 23 CEU's. Birth Works Certified Childbirth Educators and Doulas who are going for dual certification also receive a $50 discount.
