    A BirthWorks Doula...

  • Provides information to help a pregnant woman and her partner develop a birth plan prior to birth.
  • Provides continuous support for the woman during her labor.

    Educator Recertification

     
     
    After you have become a BirthWorks International Certified Childbirth Educator CCE(BWI), you will receive the first year of your recertification FREE. From then on, recertification fees will be due every two years along with minimal requirements.
    Recertification Requirements Include the Following:
     
    1. Attend a Birth Works Childbirth Educator Workshop (CEW) OR an advanced CEW, OR a childbirth related conference, seminar, or workshop and write about the experience.
    2. Write an article for the Birth Works newsletter or for a national magazine.
    3. Read one book from the highly recommended reading list and write a book report.
    4. Facilitate a minimum of one full class series a year OR three private classes and provide the office with a list of class participants. If there were special circumstances that made it impossible to teach at least one class, please mention these circumstances.
    5. Make sure the office has up to date information on file (name, address, email, etc).
    6. Payment of recertification fee.

    The BirthWorks Certification Program is a Three Step Process...

    1. Completion of the requirements in the comfort of your own home in a self-study course, sending your prerequisites to your reviewer and receiving feedback.
    2. Attendance at a three-day BirthWorks Childbirth Educator Workshop held regionally.
    3. Facilitate an 8 week (16 hour) BirthWorks course over a ten-week period.

    The BirthWorks Trainer's Workshop

    The Birth Works Trainers’ Workshop is designed to provide hands-on experience in leading various segments of the Birth Works Childbirth Education Workshop (CEW).
    Participants find this experience very valuable in increasing their level of confidence in preparation for teaching their own workshops. Ample time is devoted to questions and further explanations of various techniques are given as needed. Much attention is given to the importance of and specific techniques used to increase a feeling of safety in a group setting. After the Trainer’s Workshop, participants will co-teach a Birth Works Childbirth Education Workshop with an experienced Birth Works Trainer.
