A BirthWorks Doula: - Provides information to help a pregnant woman and her partner develop a birth plan prior to birth.
- Strives to live up to the ideals of a BW doula.
- Believes that women are born with the knowledge about how to give birth and helps them to have more trust and faith in their own ability to give birth.
- Understands principles of Primal Health, birth physiology and behaviors of hormones that help labor to progress.
- Helps women in labor to feel more self-confidence through encouraging words, comfort measures, and the value of privacy.
- Applies principles of pelvic positioning and bodywork to facilitate movement of a baby through the pelvis.
- Visits a woman after her birth to help process the birth experience, ensure positive birth memories and to offer assistance with breastfeeding and postpartum adjustments.
The BirthWorks Doula Certification Program is a 4-Step Process - Submit your Profile of a BirthWorks Doula and completed registration form.
- Complete your BirthWorks Doula Journal Workbook.
- Attend a three-day BirthWorks Doula Workshop and complete reading and written exercises.
- Attend two births and obtain evaluations from the mother and a
professional member of the birth team for each birth. Meet women nationwide who wish to become BirthWorks Childbirth Educators and/or Doulas in their communities? BIRTHWORKS TRAINER’S WORKSHOP: The BirthWorks Trainer’s Workshops are designed to provide hands-on experience in leading various segments of both the BirthWorks Childbirth Education Workshop (CEW) and Doula Educator Worskhops (DEW). Participants find this experience very valuable in increasing their level of confidence in preparation for teaching their own workshops. Ample time is devoted to questions and further explanations of various techniques are given as needed. Much attention is given to the importance of and specific techniques used to increase a feeling of safety in a group setting. After the Trainer’s Workshop, participants will co-teach a BirthWorks Childbirth Education Workshop and/or Doula Education Workshop with an experienced BirthWorks Trainer. |
