What is BirthWorks?

• Birth Works is a process...not a method. We believe that each woman will labor and birth in her own way. There is no one right way to give birth.  Our childbirth classes honor each woman's wholeness and individuality and encourage integration of the mind, body, and spirit through the practice of human values.
• Birth Works is intuitive... in our childbirth classes, we encourage women to listen to their bodies by following their instincts, moving and eating as needed, breathing slowly and deeply to promote relaxation and facilitate labor, and choosing labor positions that keep the birth passageway open.
• Birth Works is family oriented...Families are encouraged to take Birth Works childbirth classes early in pregnancy or even prior to conception, as this is the optimal time for learning about good prenatal nutrition, selecting caregivers, choosing a birth environment that feels safe, and identifying and exploring beliefs that will influence the birth.
• Birth Works is innovative. . .we are the only certifying organization currently focusing on Primal Health Research and integrating these findings into our approach to childbirth education. Primal Health Research is a growing area of study that links the experiences of the primal period (conception through the first year) with the long term health and well-being of the individual. Dr. Michel Odent, world renowned author and speaker on childbirth issues and childbirth education and member of the Birth Works Board of Advisors, spearheads the discussion and development of this crucial field.
